Its worrying that something is wrong with you. it’s having to muster up genuine happiness when yet another friend gets engaged, married, or pregnant. Its sitting at home alone some nights when everyone is busy. It’s wondering if and when you’ll meet those socially implicated milestones. Its handling things often alone. It’s terrible first dates and cringly text messages. Its swiping left until your thumb is sore. Its rejection or having to be the one to reject. Its all of these things and more.whie all of this may be true, Being single can also mean developing a sense of self for the first time. Its deciding who you want to be as an individual before you add someone else to your life. Its getting to sit in silence if you choose to do so. Its meeting a variety of new faces and making stories out of those not-so-great dates. Its deepening your existing relationships because you have the time to do so. Its getting to shamelessly flirt with the cute new coworker or the bartender. It means being the fun aunt or uncle. Being single doesn’t have to mean this soul-crushing black hole we make it out to be. Would it be nice to come home and have your person to seek comfort in at the end of the day? Of course. And one day you will. But until then, find peace in the silence. Take this time to create a home in yourself so that when the right person comes along, you will be ready to enjoy it because you want it, not because you think you need it.
